Merry Christmas 2021

今年のクリスマスはたっぷり2週間、ずっと家にいました。いい天気で、そりすべりやスケートに散歩もして楽しく過ごしました。クリスマスプレゼントはちょっと残りの休みを忙しく工作、取り組めるものを取り入れました。えいさにはレゴ、だいきにはカバン作るセットとロボット、ゆりにもカバン作るセットと編み物セット、けのには財布作るセットとプログラミングのオンラインコース。だいきは作ったカバンをさっそく気に入って小さな聖典を入れて教会に持って行っています。今年はせっかくクリスマスソングを練習してるのにコンサートしなかった例年を悔やんで、事前に録音しました！プライマリーで練習してた曲を子どもたちで歌った一曲、けのとゆりはそれぞれピアノ一曲ずつ、あとだいきとゆりがそれぞれソロで一曲ずつ歌いました。マムのピアノのミス以外はとてもよかった。なので録音に動画と今年撮った写真をつけてクリスマスコンサートとして編集し、クリスマスの夜にみんなで見ました。子どもたちに歌を習わせたいな～と思いつつなかなか実現しないので、家で歌うことを続けたい、と思います。新年の目標かな。あと、今年は何年ぶりかにやっと、アドベントカレンダー？ができました。うちは12日前からしかやらないのですが。毎日イエス様についての聖句を読んで子どもたちと話してとてもよかったです。もう今のうちに来年用に新しい聖句に差し替えておかなくては。。

We had a whole week of break before and after Christmas. The weather was nice that we enjoyed skating, sledding and walking. Asa loved it. He can skate now! For Christmas, I made sure that children get presents that they can work on. Asa got lego and build-car-toy. Daiki got bag making kit and a coding robot. He is pretty happy about his scripture bag that he made! Yuri also got a bag kit and crochet set. Ken got a kit to make a wallet and python learning class! I love that they got interested in new skills. Asa has been tirelessly building legos after Christmas. This year, instead of trying to hold Christmas concert on Christmas, I recorded every piece beforehand and made a Christmas concert video. Children sang a Primary song, Ken and Yuri each played a Christmas piano song, Daiki and Yuri sang a solo. I added pictures of 2021 to the video as well. I always wished my children to be singers. I loved how they sang. There's still a lot to improve so it is my new year resolution to keep singing with them. Every night for12 Days before Christmas, we picked a scripture and talked about the Savior's life. I really enjoyed it. I am going to prepare new 12 scriptures for next Christmas now...

DIY project 2021

 寝室が４つある家を探していたわたしたち、結局いい家が見つからず、代わりに自分たちで地下のファミリールームを寝室にすることにしました。10月半ばから11月末までの間、身を粉にして働き、満足の行く寝室ができあがりました！まず、天井を張り替えてから、壁にもう一枚足し（ウッドパネルをドライウォールにしたくて）、壁に穴をあけてシャワールームにつながるドアを設置、寝室のドアもつけました。もともとカウンターになっていたところを壊してクローゼットもつけました。左側二枚は改装前の写真です。（できあがりの写真以降、カーテンをつけて、絨毯やベッドカバーを買い替えてもうちょっと素敵になっています。）もともと夏も冬も寒すぎてほとんど使わなかった部屋が、新しいドアと壁と天井のおかげでとても暖かくなり、みんなが集まる場所になりました。いろんなことに挑戦して工具もたくさん増えたし、スキルもついた気がするので、もっといろいろやってみよう！という気持ちになりました。

We were looking for a four bedroom house but because we couldn't find it we decided to add one more bedroom by ourselves. We were not using the family room downstairs because it gets too cold. We changed drop-ceiling to drywall, wood panel wall to drywall and added closet, an entrance door and another doorway to shower room. It was kind of a big project. It took from mid-October to end of November, but we did it! We love how it turned out. The room got a lot warmer and everyone hangs out here now. Since got more DIY tools and skills, I am thinking of more projects to do in the future:)

Schools started

 今年もマスクをしながら学校が始まりました！今のところいい感じです。今年も学校まで送り迎えします。さらに、えいさも朝週二日だけの保育園に行き始めました！一日目は行きたくない、といってポロリと泣いてしまったえいさ。こんな子初めて！！かわいい！でも学校に着いて、大声で泣いている他の子を見たら我に返った様子ですんなりとバイバイできました。帰ってきたらやっぱり楽しかったようでいろんなことを教えてくれました。右下写真は夏にきれいにペンキを塗った壁にさっそく落書きしたえいさ。がっかり。。

School has started. Kids will wear masks again. I will drive for them again. And Asa also started preschool! He cried a little bit in the first day but he was just fine when I left. He had lots of fun and was happy when he came home. The right down corner pic shows that Asa drew on wall we painted this summer...

Ken and Daddy trip

 夏の終わりに思い立ってけのとダディ二人だけで教育的な旅行に行くことにしました。いつも小さい子に合わせた旅をしているのでいいかな、と思い。二人はDCのいろいろな博物館を見に。その間マムは残りの子と近くのプールついているホテルで過ごしました。旅行苦手なのでどうなるかと思ったけど楽しく過ごせました。けのもたくさんの経験ができたようです。よかったよかった。

Ken and Daddy went to DC together because Ken is old enough to be able to enjoy museums but others are not yet. Mom took the rest of children to hotel nearby. I was a little nervous but I think we satisfied all children. Yay.

Summer 2021

 今年の夏は家を買おう！と張り切っており、家を見に行ったり自分の家を売れるようにきれいにしていました。でも結局買わなかったのですが、まあ、ちょっときれいになった家に住むのは気持ちがいいということで。。家の外壁内壁ペンキで塗ったり、トイレの床を張り替えたり、最後は物置を立てました！これはちょっと大変だった・・・けど、車庫がいっぱいだったのでとても助かっています。子どもたちにとってはつまらない夏だったようで、ミステリーケーブやカウンティ―フェアにも行きました。あと、あさひが自転車に乗れるようになったので家族みんなでサイクリングもできるようになりました。6人分の自転車を積んで移動は無理なのでこれが最後のサイクリングの年になるかも・・？あと、写真はないけど友人と２回もキャンプしました。（毎年１回の我が家にとってはすごいこと！）そしてやっぱり誰かと一緒に行った方が楽しいなあということになりました。

We spent a lot of time on house this summer. We painted throughout, updated bathroom, bought new kitchen appliances and even built a shed!! Well, we ended up not buying or selling the house but it's still nice to have a little updated house. It was boring for kids though. So we tried to take them out too. Mystery Cave, Jordan County Fair, pools and biking.. oh, Asa is biking now. Kids are sure growing so fast..

Fay Canyon and Red Rock Canyon

 

セドナでもう一つ子供向けのトレイルに行きました。上半分はそのフェイキャニオンの写真です。こちらは少し歩いて、突き当りにある岩をまた登りました。今回はマムもえいさも最後まで登りました。えいさはもっと登りたくて、下りるよと言ったときは泣いてました。帰る前にラスベガスで寄ったレッドロックキャニオンでも、えいさはもっと登りたくて泣いてました。レッドロックキャニオンは予約しないと入れない国立公園です。そんなに広くないのに、ちょっと走ったら山の色が完全に変わるのがおもしろいです。途中駐車場の隣が岩がごろごろしている山でとても登りやすくスイスイと登れました。岩登りは楽しく、すぐ景色も変わるのですぐ満足の得られる活動だなと思いました。ちょうどいい岩山、それを見つけるのか大変ですが。とにかく楽しい春休みになりました！！

Top half is pics from Fay Canyon in Sedona. Bottom half is pics from Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas. Both places are perfect for kids' climbing. Asa did great jobs. He cried when we needed to go down. He wanted to go more. Rock climbing is more challenging and fun. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation needs reservation to get in. It is an interesting place. As we drove the scenic way, its view quickly changed. Different color of mountain sits next to each other. Anyways, we loved our spring break so much!! Hope to go back there one day.

Ruins

 

次の日は朝別のトレイルを歩いた後フラグスタッフに戻ってその周辺の公園に行きました。強烈なインデアンの遺跡を見ました。ウォルナットキャニオンには標高2000mの岩肌に洞穴を作って住んでいたホピ族の遺跡があります。崖は深すぎて下は見えません。まずは何段も何段も階段を下りてから切り立った崖にある遺跡を回ります。ゆりは少し怖かったみたいです。人が住んでいたなんて思えないけど、でもそこにいたという証拠がはっきりと残っているのです。不思議でした。次に見た遺跡、広い砂漠の真ん中にあるウパッキとウコキ遺跡でもそう思いました。恐らく彼らの住んでいた1200年頃にはもう少し環境はましだったのかもしれない、と思っても、やっぱりとても厳しくて本当にできたのかどうか考えると神秘的です。このウパッキ公園の中には1000年頃に噴火したと考えられる火山の影響が残されていました。山が半分黒い砂に覆われて未だに植物が生えていません。地面は広範囲にわたって掘り起こされたように荒れ果てた冷えたマグマに覆われていました。自然の恐ろしさ、神の力強さを考えずにはいられない、そんな場所でした。

We drove back to Flagstaff on the next day and visited a few more parks around there. Walnut Canyon National Monument is remarkable, truly beyond your imagination! Middle row and left down corner pics were taken there. It is the ruins of dwelling of Hopi, native Indian tribe who lived in cliff around 1200AD. First, we went down hundreds of stairsteps. Then we went around the cliff to see the ruins. The canyon rim elevation is about 7000ft. Too deep to see the bottom. I just can't imagine how they lived there but ruins are there to tell that they were there. Not too far from there, we also visited another ruins, Wupatki and Wukoki pueblo in the middle of vast dessert. Probably environment was better when they lived but still it seemed very hard and mysterious. A part of Wupatki National Monument also tells us about the volcano which exploded around 1000AD. A half of mountain still covered with sand and no plants growing and vast area of ground was covered with cooled lava. It strongly reminds us of the power of the nature.

Sedona

 

フラッグスタッフという町に泊まって、次の日は南下してセドナに行きました。45分くらいのドライブですが、景色が変わっていって本当に美しいです。途中10分くらいで300mくらいも下るカーブ連続のところもあり、見ごたえ満点でした。だんだん木が減って山が赤くなっていきます。途中でニジマスの釣り堀によってお昼ご飯にしました。一人一匹ずつ釣ってその場でグリルしました。アメリカでは釣った野生の魚をそのまま食べるのは安全ではなく、こんなに新鮮なお魚を食べたのは子どもたち初めてだと思います。本当においしくてみんな大喜びでした！骨も柔らかくてすぐ取れて、きれいに最後まで食べてました。それからセドナに着きましたが、ダウンタウンは人であふれかえっていました。通りすぎただけですが、町のおしゃれさも印象的でした。セドナは山も道も赤くて本当にきれいなところです。ハイキングスポットもアメリカ一あるらしい。道路わきの駐車量もすごかったです。この日はキャシードロロックに行きました。また上の方まで登りましたが、途中でこれ以上はえいさを登らせたくない、と思って中断。信ちゃんが上の子３人を連れてもう少し上まで行きましたが、やっぱり怖くてどこまで行ったか見れませんでした。ちなみにゆりは旅行の間こうやって岩をよじ登っている間もずっとスカートをはいてます。なぜ。。

We stayed in Flagstaff and drove down south to Sedona the next day. That driving scenery was really beautiful as well. We were like driving down 1000ft within 10 minutes. We stopped by the Rainbow Trout Farm on the way for lunch. Each of us caught a trout and grilled there. It was the first time for kids to eat fish this fresh. They loved it! Fishing was fun and fresh fish was delicious. Definitely it was my favorite lunch of all. We drove pass downtown Sedona and amazed at its beauty and crowd. I fell in love with these red rocks and red path! Beautiful!! There were many cars parked by the road for hiking everywhere. We were wondering if we could find a parking spot but Cathedral Rock parking lots were secured by police. Like Grand Canyon, you can climb wherever you want here. Asa was trying to climb higher than the up right pic but he is not allowed when his mom is thinking right. Shin took other three a little higher but I was too scared to look. I don't know how high they got. Anyways, I was so happy to see them back. They loved climbing.

Grand Canyon National Park

春休みにグランドキャニオンとその周辺に行ってきました。見るものがたくさんあって、遊園地より楽しかったです。まずは初日はグランドキャニオン。やっぱり有名なだけあって、迫力の景色でした。深く深く刻まれた谷！そして子どもたちの登りたいという意欲を満たしてくれる大きな石の積み上げてある一角もあり、えいさが喜んでました。初めてのアリゾナだったけど、どこでも自由に登っていいというスタイル？で驚きました。どこにもロープなんてありません。右下の写真、見えるかな？人がいっぱいあの鋭い崖を下りて行っています。。わたしは怖くて見ていられなかったのでどこまでいったか知らないけど、信ちゃんとけのと大輝であそこをちょっと下りていきました。無事でよかった！もう人はいっぱいいたんだけど、公園自体は通常運営ではなく、バスや建物も開いてない感じでした。人が多くて外でもマスクだったので、日焼け止めを忘れた男の子たちはマスクの跡がくっきり残りました。
We went to Arizona for the first time. We had a blast. So many fun things to do there! On the first day, we visited Grand Canyon. The view was amazing. Canyon was much deeper and wider than I could imagine. There were rocks for kids to climb. Asa loved it (and he found real rocks to climb everywhere after this park too!)  We were kind of surprised at not seeing safety ropes. We could climb anywhere! Can you see people going down the cliff on the right corner photo? I was too scared to see with my own eyes but Shin took D and K to go down there a bit. I was so relieved when I saw them back. Oh my goodness. However the park wasn't fully open yet, there were so many people. We needed to wear masks even outside. Boys forgot to put sunscreen on and got sunburn to leave mask mark on their face.

Yuri's Baptism

 

ゆりが８歳になってバプテスマを受けました。コロナの影響で歌もお客さんもいないバプテスマ会でしたが、とても特別なものになりました。ZOOMで日本とシンガポールとユタにいる家族が参加でき、ゆりの二人のおじいちゃんがお話をし、二人のおばあちゃんがお祈りをしてくれました。ゆりが「にじがすきです」のピアノアレンジを前奏曲で弾きました。けのとマムが証人をして、ビショップが司会をしてくれました。ゆりはとても純粋な信仰と証を持ってまた一歩踏み出しました。本当に素敵な日となりました。

Yuri turned 8 and got baptized on Jan. 30, 2021. Because of pandemic, it was a quiet but became a special baptismal service. Only Bishop was there besides us, but our families in Japan, Singapore and Utah can join us via zoom. Yuri's two grandpas gave talks. There was no singing according to the guideline at this time but Yuri played the piano prelude music "When I Am Baptized". She has a sweet testimony and love for the Savior. We are so blessed to witness her step towards eternal happiness.
