Grand Canyon National Park
We went to Arizona for the first time. We had a blast. So many fun things to do there! On the first day, we visited Grand Canyon. The view was amazing. Canyon was much deeper and wider than I could imagine. There were rocks for kids to climb. Asa loved it (and he found real rocks to climb everywhere after this park too!) We were kind of surprised at not seeing safety ropes. We could climb anywhere! Can you see people going down the cliff on the right corner photo? I was too scared to see with my own eyes but Shin took D and K to go down there a bit. I was so relieved when I saw them back. Oh my goodness. However the park wasn't fully open yet, there were so many people. We needed to wear masks even outside. Boys forgot to put sunscreen on and got sunburn to leave mask mark on their face.

Yuri's Baptism
Yuri turned 8 and got baptized on Jan. 30, 2021. Because of pandemic, it was a quiet but became a special baptismal service. Only Bishop was there besides us, but our families in Japan, Singapore and Utah can join us via zoom. Yuri's two grandpas gave talks. There was no singing according to the guideline at this time but Yuri played the piano prelude music "When I Am Baptized". She has a sweet testimony and love for the Savior. We are so blessed to witness her step towards eternal happiness.

Thanksgiving 2020
It had been a while since I made Thanksgiving dinner last time. This year, under the governor's guideline we needed to stay at home. I made a feast but it ended up not traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I roasted duck instead. I loved it! I will do that every year. On the next day, we sliced beef and did shabushabu and yakiniku. Yes! We finally bought meat slicer!! It is so useful. I love it, I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about it. During this holiday, we enjoyed puzzles and karaoke, and Asa was finally potty trained. Nice. Prophet gave a remark a week before Thanksgiving Day and encouraged us to tell gratitude on SNS. I hesitated at first but when I did I found lots of joy. It was great to hear from everyone too. School got closed again due to the rise of covid-19. Children are back at home. D is striving to learn Chinese online. Studying is not his favorite thing, so sometimes it bring tears and screaming. K and Y are so helpful at teaching him. They teach piano sometimes too. D prefers them teaching instead of his mom. D already told me that he will teach Asa when he starts learning piano. That would be great!!

Halloween2020
Pandemic Halloween turned out to be our favorite. We don't have trick-or-treat this year but our neighbors did reverse trick-or-treat, which is they delivered us a bag of treats. I know we have such a wonderful neighborhood. I made a devil face pinata and prepared games. We had a family Halloween party at home. Kids were so excited. The pinata I made was really tough like the ones I always do. Kids tried really hard but it took a while to crack it, which was good for exercise. Anyways we had so much fun!!

Family Trip 2020
We decided to visit Disney World when covid case was lower in early fall. My friend who also went to Disney world recommended that it was safe and not so crowded. Since it was one of my dream to go there as family, I was so excited. Mask wearing is mandate everywhere in Disney World even outside. For me it was challenging but kids did great. They are used to wearing mask all the time at school. We had a blast. On the first day, K and I stood on the lines of all the popular thrill ride together because others didn't want to. On second day, everyone helped each other to make everyone's wish come true. I am so glad that we all went there and came back healthy and safely. This is definitely a memory we will cherish. Hope to go there again as family!

First Day of School
Kids started school with hybrid model. D goes to Kindergarten for four days a week. Y and K go to school for two days. I have two children stay at home everyday. As it is immersion program, this is not so efficient for language learning. However we are just grateful for school to be open in this situation. I used not to pay much attention to their school work but I am now, which is a good thing. We parents corporate to help them have opportunity to use Chinese. Ken is practicing Chinese and learning how to teach at the same time. Now that we have more time, they can finish Japanese school homework within the school hour and have time to play games. I don't know if they get upset when school opens 5 days then no time for game anymore.

Tettegouche State Park
Our last spot was this Park. This beach was kind of red. Nice quiet beach both of lake and of river. Kids were able to enjoy playing water finally. We also hiked along the cliff side up to the highest point. Asa walked pretty well. He insisted on walking all by himself. We absolutely fell in love with Lake Superior and North shore. Might come back every year from now on!
Black Beach
This beach is only 15 mins away from Gooseberry Falls. Sand is black and each sand particle is bigger. That makes water super clear unlike beaches nearby. We didn't play with water because it was so cold. The view was amazing. The wind was chill but its quietness soothed us. Our little climber Daiki was so excited to go up the rock island. Shin took older two boys to the rock island. They went up quite high and even to the other side of island. I was a little scared but forced to learn that my boy got so big!
Gooseberry State Park
We were planning to go to Florida this year but had to cancel. Sigh.. Well, kids are so flexible. They didn't care much but parents wanted to go somewhere instead, as far as they could come back in one day. The solution was Duluth. Our first stop was Gooseberry Falls. That is such a famous place. So many people were there, so we masked even in outside at some spot. I love waterfalls. This park is spectacular. It would be so much fun to play with water. We mostly hiked this time.
