Cascade Falls

探せば家の周りにもきれいな場所がたくさんあるとわかりました。ここは一時間以内で行けるミネソタとウィスコンシンの境にある滝です。階段をどんどん降りていくと気持ちのいい滝の落ちてくる川が。子どもたちは楽しく水遊び。冷たい水とごつごつした小石の上をあさひがどんどん歩き回ってました。大きい子は岩をよじ登って滝の裏まで歩いていきました。脇に続くトレイルで歩いて大きな川まで出れます。帰りにせっかくなのでウィスコンシンのおいしいアイスクリームを食べました。 

We found beautiful spots more in our area. This spot is less than an hour drive away from us. It is on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. After going down a long stairs, you can see the nice stream with waterfall. Kids had a lot of fun playing there. I was surprised to see Asa walking swiftly around on the rocks in cold water. The trail next to it leads us to the river. On the way home, we bought big scoops of ice cream. Yum!

Itasca State Park

他の旅行はなくなりましたが、毎年恒例の独立記念日のキャンプに行くことはできました。半年も前から予約しておいたミシシッピ川源流に行ってきました。偉大なミシシッピ川をなんと歩いて渡ることができました。水は温かくて、子どもたちは喜んで遊びました。大輝がおぼれかけマムの携帯は水没というアクシデントにも見舞われましたが、楽しく過ごせました。自転車も持って行ってサイクリングを楽しみました。夜はホタルも見れました。
We were not sure if our July 4th tradition would work out this year but we made it. We crossed Mississippi river by walk at the Head water of Mississippi. Water was warm and it was perfect for children to play. We brought our bikes and went biking next day. It had been a long time since last time we left home.

Last Day of School

学校が終わり夏休みが始まりました。最後の二ヶ月は遠隔学習で主にiPadで課題をやる、zoomでビデオチャットという毎日でした。大輝はプリスクール卒業。卒業式がなくて残念でしたが。ゆりのクラスは先生のうちまでカーパレードがありました。せっかく車を飾っていったけど、、なんとマム別の車についていってしまい全然別の場所に着くという大失態。。さてやっと始まった長い長い何の予定もない夏休み！どう過ごそう？！
My kids had the last day of school. We had distant learning for the last two months. It felt like having summer break already but it is nice not to have homework anymore. Daiki graduated from preschool. Yuri’s class had the car parade at her teacher’s house. It is so silly that I accidentally followed the different car and ended up in the different house. I had to look up gps. Anyways I have no idea what to do this summer. What should we do to make this summer special fun?

Easter 2020

毎年お友達と祝うイースターですが、今年はできません。それでも何かしようと決めてました。今年は卵探しの卵の中には10個の復活を祝う活動を入れておきました。なんと大雪が降ったので地下でしました。希望を祝うイースター、大好きです。今年も一つの思い出ができました。
We usually celebrate it with friends but we can’t this year. I still wanted to do something. It snowed all day on Easter. I prepared ten Easter activities and hid them inside eggs which we hid downstairs. I love Easter. We celebrate the Hope which the Savior brought for us.

Quarantine 2020

コロナウィルスの影響で学校は3/16にしまったっきり、ずっと家にいます。あっという間に全てが変わってしまいました。信ちゃんも家から働いていて家にいっぱい人がいるって感じですが、いいことは子どもたちが学校休みなのを喜んでます。ホームスクールすべきだろうか。毎日の日課を作りなんとかやっていますが、早く元の生活に戻れるよう望みます。
The school closed on 3/16. Since then, we are always at home. Things changed so quickly. Good thing is, my kids like not having school... should I do home school then?? We developed good routine and are doing just fine. But we do hope to go back to normal.

Science Museum

初めて科学博物館に行ってきました。とっても楽しかったです。始めは信ちゃんがボランティアをしていたので一人で四人を遊ばせていたらすごく大変だったんだけど、信ちゃんが終わって友達も来たらやっと楽しめました。たくさん活動があって、どれも感心させられるものでした。たくさんの技術やものの性質をうまく子どもでも楽しめる活動に変えていて、全部よく見て試してみる時間があればいいのになあと思いました。多分子どもが大きくなってからデートできたい感じです。
I got to go to the science museum for the first time! It was really fun. Shin was volunteering there. It was so hard to keep an eye on all four kids but after he joined and friends came, we enjoyed so much. I was amazed at all the activities. They use all the technologies and nature and make them into fun activities. I wish we had more time to look all through. Maybe I will come for a date when kids grow up.

A winter day

盛りだくさんな1日でした！まずは旧正月になったので、一足先に年越したシンガポールの両親に前の日の夜挨拶しました。久々にドレスアップしました。朝みんなが学校に行っている間えいさは雪まつりへ。学校が終わった後、ゆりは誕生日会に行きました。ゆりの教会の同じ歳のこのクラスにはなんと５人も同じ週に誕生日を迎える女の子がいます。その五人で去年に引き続き今年も一緒にお祝いしました。みんな一緒にこのまま大きくなって一緒にBYUまで行けたら最高だな〜と思います。この最も寒い時期にプールで泳ぐという贅沢。その間男の子たちで近くの自然センターのイベントでアイスフィッシングに行ってきました。氷に穴が開けてあり小さな魚を餌に魚釣りします。テントの中は思いの外暖かいそうです。左下は餌の小さな魚のお尻を棒でつついて進ませるレースをしているえいさ。とてもミネソタの冬を満喫した一日となりました。
We had a wonderful day! After Japanese school Yuri went to birthday party. Her primary class has five girls that have birthday around the same time. They all turn 7 this week. I think that is such a blessing for Yuri. I hope they all grow up together and even go to college together. It is the coldest time of the year but they went swimming. On the other hand, my boys went their very first ice fishing! That was so interesting. It was the Nature center’s free event. Boys raced their fish food which was small fish. They touched fish tail with stick then fish swam forward. They said inside of fishing tent was so warm but didn’t catch any fish. The event provided hot cocoa and sled as well. In the morning while others were in school, Asa went to snow sculpture event. Also, it was Chinese New Year. We all dressed up and wished a wonderful year.

書初め

明けましておめでとうございます！日本語学校で書初めがありました。けのもゆりもだいきも上手に書いて花丸をもらいました。わたしの方は、係だったので右往左往して疲れ切りました。家に帰って来てから寝たきりでした。
Happy New Year! Japanese school had the calligraphy event. K, Y and D did very well. For me, it was a really tiring day. I was one of committee member. I am so glad that it went well.

クリスマス2019

 今年のクリスマスは静かに家でゆっくり過ごしました。とても天気が良かったのでそりすべりをたくさんしました。今年は信ちゃんサンタが靴下にプレゼントを入れてくれて朝子どもたちは起きてすぐそれを開けました。信ちゃんが起きてきてからプレゼントを開けました。グマからもプレゼントをもらって遊びました。今年のプレゼントはベイブレードが大ヒット！ずーっとそれで遊びました。そしてピアノでクリスマスの曲もいっぱい弾きました。けのが今年も手作りのゲームを用意してくれました。暗号を解きながら宝さがしをしました。夜は信ちゃんが映画「素晴らしきかな人生」を流しました。それから教会のクリスマスビデオを見て話しました。
We had a quiet cozy Christmas this year. The weather was perfect until Christmas Day so we went sledding a lot. Shin prepared Christmas stockings. In the morning, kids woke up and opened those presents. They were not allowed to wake up daddy until 8am. Then we opened present under the tree. The best hit present this year was beyblade. Kids enjoyed playing with it all day long. Grandma sent them presents too. We also played a lot of Christmas songs with the piano. Ken made up a secret code game which we all enjoyed. In the evening, Shin showed ‘Oh Wonderful Life’ and church Christmas video. We ate tons of sweets. I loved it! So nice to have a holiday like this!

Halloween 2019

今年は全く何もしなかったハロウィン！日本語学校もあるし教会のハロウィンにも行けず、地域の催し物にも行かなかったので学校で仮装した大輝を除いてみんなコスチュームを着たのは一度だけ。コスチュームも何も工夫もなく家にあったのを着てハロウィンの夜にうちの周りにトリックオアトリートだけ行きました。４０分くらいだけでバケツいっぱいのキャンディをもらって帰ってきたよ！これをまた家庭の夕べのおやつにちょっとずつ食べていきます。近所のおまわりさんたちもグロースティックとお菓子をあげてまわっていたそうです。すごくいい近所に住んでいるなあ！と思いました。
I didn’t do anything special for Halloween this year. Just wore costumes that were already at home and went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood. But still kids loved it. Asa made a record of carrying heavy load and walking by himself for the longest distance. Police was driving by to giving out candies and glow sticks. We love our neighborhood.
