Mormon Trail 2

チムニーロックからそう遠くないところにインディペンデンスロックもあります。ここは子どもたちが1番楽しんだようで、大きな石の上を好きに登れます。てっぺんには開拓者達の名前が彫ってあるそうですが、ちょっとアサヒを連れて登るには危なかったので女子は待機してました。だいきはスルスルと登ってとっても楽しかった様子。次のストップはマーティンズコーブでした。ここは手車隊が吹雪に遭い立ち往生して多くが亡くなった後、ソルトレイクシティからの救助隊に発見された場所です。その過酷さを感じないほど美しい場所でしたが。ここでは実際に手車を押してみることができます。当時の人の証を読むと彼らが苦難の中で信仰が精錬されたこと、そして自らの証でそれを読む私たちの証をも強めたいと望んでいたことがわかります。そこからさらに５時間運転してソルトレイクシティに着きました。ほとんどロッキー山脈の中を行く美しいけれど過酷な道のりだったと思います。そしてブリガムヤングが初めに辿り着いてユタの盆地を見渡し、ここがその地であると言ったと言われる公園へ行きました。道中たくさんの土地が溢れていましたが、主がそう示されるまで、預言者がそれを伝えるまで、開拓者たちは歩き続けました。
After not too long drive, there’s Independence Rock. My children say this was the most fun stop during this road trip. It is the huge rock you can climb. On the top of the rock there’s monument curved by many pioneers. I was scared to go up with Asa, so girls and baby stayed on the ground. Daiki swiftly went up. He loved it. And, Martin’s Cove. It is the place where Handcart company faced difficulties and after so many died they stayed and waited. The rescue came from Salt Lake and found them there. We were able to push handcart. We read from their testimony that through their trial, they are strengthened and they hoped to strengthen our faith as we read them. After that stop, there was still 5 hours of drive left to Salt Lake City even we took a shortcut. That was a beautiful scenery way but looked very difficult to walk because of going up to the mountains. Finally we arrived at This Is the Place Park. After first trip of Brigham Young, he stopped there and said “This is the place”. So it is the trail led by the Lord. There was all the empty land along the way but they didn’t stop until the Lord told the prophet where they should be.
